Less than two weeks to go before the Self Assement deadline – what you need to know

 In Help, HMRC, HMRC Investigation

HMRC has produced a mini video about the 31 January Self Assessment tax return deadline – actually they did it for this time last year, but it’s as good now as it was then.

In a question and answer interview, Ruth Owen, HMRC Director General, Personal Tax, answers some basic questions about doing Self Assessment online. She’s clearly reading the answers off a bit of paper – which is a little bit of a concern – but the information is good.

She covers the deadline, filing online, what taxpayers need to do in the lead-up to the annual deadline, what happens if you don’t pay on time, and repayments of tax by HMRC.

The deadline is in less than two weeks, but if you want to hit the deadline and you haven’t registered do so now, it will take time to set everything up.
